The following poems were written for my grandmother, who passed away in October 1999. It was a very traumatic time in my family life, and I know, deep in my heart, I will NEVER forget her. You never forget wonderful people that have shaped where you are, and most importantly, WHAT you are today. Thank you, Ma, for everything. -- Christine M. Joseph
In loving memory of Irene Isabel Pemberton (1913-1999)
Farewell Forever
I don't want to say goodbye
it seems like yesterday we met
what's so sad
is that it really was.
Faded
Your eyes
that glow they once had
faded beyond recognition
Do you know me?
I know you . . .
Viva La Machisma
The darkest hour often calls for wells of strength
to help overcome
to help see the truth
The trails and tribulations of the past
are never forgotten
never begotten
in this perilous world of snakes and fire
The prospects of the future cannot be forseen
the time is now
the place is here
nothing can change the harsh reality of
the Today
Through it all, it lives
with fortitude and strength
tying bonds across generations
from mother to child --
