Introduction to Rurouni Kenshin
Here's the condensed version of Kenshin' story. Kenshin Himura was
called the legendary "Hitokiri Battousai"
(meaning master assassin), and he helped to pave the way from times
of turmoil to Meiji, the era of peace. But many still live by the law
of the sword, and for them, times hadn't changed. After many tragic
events in his life, Kenshin became a "rurouni",
a wanderer. After doing extensive traveling around Japan, he happened
upon Tokyo, and Kaoru Kamiya, master of the technique "Kamiya
Katsushin Ryu". After saving her, Kenshin went to live with
Kaoru in the Dojo. As time went along, they met Yahiko, Sanosuke, Megumi,
the Oniwa Banshuu, and others. At one point, Kenshin had to fight a
former Shinsen Gumi member (one of the groups from the previous era)
named Hajime Saitou. This fight made Kenshin realize that the Hitokiri
side of him was still in him, and he had to face it. However, he also
had to find a man named Makoto Shishio, the inheritor of the title Hitokiri
Battousai. Kenshin found himself returning to Kyoto, where most of the
trouble centered during the previous era. His faithful friends went
to help him out in Kyoto. Kenshin visits the home of his master, Seijuro
Hiko, and learns the succession technique to his fighting style, Hiten
Mitsurugi Ryu. Shishio is eventually defeated, sent to hell and
so on.
That's about all you need to know, so you don't get lost too much.
Time Frames in Rurouni Kenshin
The story of Rurouni Kenshin takes place in Meiji 11 (1878). The Meiji
Era began in 1868. This fanfiction story takes place in Meiji 12 (1879)
during the fall.
Fighting Techniques
Kenshin's fighting style is called Hiten Mitsurugi Ryu. It is the most
powerful technique in existence (hey, I'm just repeating what they say.
.), using foresight with opponents. Kenshin can read a person's move
by their emotional reactions, however slight. His godspeed makes it
almost impossible to catch up with him or any of his techniques. The
only people that could beat Kenshin are Hajime Saitou, Makoto Shishio,
and Soujiro Seta (totally in my own opinion). The succession technique,
Amakakeru Ryu no Hirameki, is undoubtedly the most effective, damaging,
and powerful attack in existence.
Kaoru's fighting style is called Kamiya Katsushin Ryu. It uses an opponents
force against them. In KKR, a wooden or bamboo sword is used. Kaoru
is teaching Yahiko how to defend himself and others he loves with this
technique. As a backup in case the sword is lost, Katsushin Ryu uses
Ju-Jitsu techniques to disarm an opponent. The succession techinque,
Hawatari, traps the opponent's sword between both wrists, disarming
the opponent, then striking in the head area. Very effective and impressive.
You are NOW ready to tackle this Rurouni Kenshin
fanfic!
Prologue
Meiji 12. It has been almost a year and a half after Kenshin Himura
had fought Makoto ShiShiO. Time greeted Kyoto and Tokyo with many blessings.
Still, life was hard. The Kamiya Dojo's business was almost nonexistent,
with it's only current student, Yahiko Myojin. Kaoru Kamiya needed some
way of making money to support everyone that lived (and didn't live)
there. Kenshin sensed the urgency when the rice supply was running low.
